DARPA seems to always be at the leading edge of finding more creative and effective means of killing. They first announced in July, 2014 their EXACTO Project (Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordnance) – the first ever guided low-caliber “smart” bullets.
A rather low-quality video of the 50-caliber round sought to demonstrate the potential for a “state-of-the-art sniper system (that) combines a maneuverable bullet and a real-time guidance system to track and deliver the projectile to the target, allowing the bullet to change path during flight.”
Now DARPA is announcing that they have successfully completed “its most successful round of live-fire tests to date.” Perhaps most notably, even a novice shooter using the system for the first time was able to hit a moving target with the guidance system. The target hits are shown in the newest video.
Program manager Jerome Dunn explains the significance, at least in technical terms:
True to DARPA’s mission, EXACTO has demonstrated what was once thought impossible: the continuous guidance of a small-caliber bullet to target. This live-fire demonstration from a standard rifle showed that EXACTO is able to hit moving and evading targets with extreme accuracy at sniper ranges unachievable with traditional rounds. Fitting EXACTO’s guidance capabilities into a small .50-caliber size is a major breakthrough and opens the door to what could be possible in future guided projectiles across all calibers. (Source)
The ‘continuous guidance of a small-caliber bullet to target’ seems to be tailor made for a robot army controlled by artificial intelligence. May we live in interesting times.

A maneuverable bullet? Not without an outside source of energy acting upon the projectile. This is old news which is being recast because of Jade Helm-15, to try and scare the sh*t out the people.
That bullet does not maneuver on its own, this is strictly an aiming device. As far as I know, there is no bullet created that can alter its course in mid flight, specifically because of how it exits the rifle. It spins and when a projectile spins there can be no added outside force which would be able to alter its course once it leaves the barrel.
DARPA gives just enough information to allow the idiot pundits to make fools of themselves by embellishing the story with their own BS. DARPA is always releasing this type of information to make it look like they are spending our monies responsibly, but are wasting billions looking for that magic bullet, as it were.
They have only created one item that is worthy of what we would have expected of a Star Wars technology, and that is the “Vehicle Mounted Active Denial System (V-MADS)” which uses microwaves to heat a persons’ skin such that they’ll run away thus dispersing rioting crowds.
But my friends it was considered too horrific to be used in Iraq, so DARPA sticks with exoskeleton robots and machines what can walk on all fours, most of which are useless in today’s crowd control or war efforts.
The only way I see this could be workable is if the bullet were able to alter its drag on one side or another, and, by continuing to adjust drag, find its way to the target.
What if the target were able to run TOWARDS the bullet, though, I wonder?

You have to admit, though, they’re getting extremely good with their CGI representations of reality.
Next they’ll be telling us they are going to send a rover to Mars.
Exacto trade name is a copy right and or patent corporate name violation because it’s already in use. Exacto is a small hobby knife and blade manufacture.
So send about 50 rounds of the smart bullet to me here along with everything else that’s needed for it’s guidance to target success in various calibers and grains and I will be willing to overlook this violation and error on your part there at DARPA.
